In
addition to offering a wide range of jazz and musical styles, Corner
Pocket’s
lineup of musicians is one of talent and experience. The band’s
creator and leader, Ryan McCullough (Saxophones/Clarinet), is a graduate
from the
University of North Texas with a degree in Business/Marketing.
He has performed domestically as well as internationally sinking his
R&B
roots into the saxophone by performing with W.C. Handy Award Winning blues
guitarist Anson Funderburgh, Blue Loon Recording artists the Solid Senders,
various UNT Lab Bands and currently performs with his own Trio.
One of
the many strengths of Corner Pocket is the hard swinging rhythm section
lead by Bassist Lynn Seaton. Through Lynn’s career, he has
performed with Woody Herman, the Grammy Award Winning Count Basie Band,
and extensive tours with Tony Bennet and George Shearing just to name
a few. He has performed in 49 of the 50 states, 35 foreign countries
and
has appeared on over 100 recordings. Lynn is sought out for clinics,
performances and workshops all over the world and currently is a faculty
member at the
University of North Texas.
Joining
Lynn in the rhythm section is Dallas’ own Andrew Griffith (Drums)
and Clark Erickson (Piano/Hammond B-3 Organ). Andrew currently holds
a degree in Jazz Studies from UNT and has performed with such greats
as Wynton Marsalis, Red Holloway and Joey DeFrancesco. Clark is also
a graduate from UNT earning both a Bachelor and Master Degrees in Jazz
Studies. Clark has performed with many groups throughout his career
and has been a featured pianist for such artists as Maynard Ferguson
and Diane Schuur.
Accompanying the band with her smooth and expressive style is Lead Female Vocalist Kyla McIntyre. Originally from Raleigh North Carolina, Kyla is currently pursuing a degree in Vocal Jazz Performance at the University of North Texas, and is quickly becoming known for her unique sound and style. At an early age Kyla began her performing career in both the musical theater and choir and has since expanded her talents, becoming one of the city's top jazz vocalists.
Finishing up the
personnel of Corner Pocket is Volker Ruckgaber (Trombone). Originally
from Germany, Volker moved to the United States to pursue
a career in jazz performance. He has since graduated from UNT with a
degree
in Jazz Studies and currently maintains an aggressive teaching and performance
schedule.
Corner
Pocket’s 2nd CD, On Cue, is now available. Produced by Ryan McCullough,
it features arrangements from well-known composer/arranger Scott Covey
and Lynn Seaton.
